Update October 28 2018

ZhashOS Release 3 rc2 is now available

-HUGE improvement in setup time and ease with our new SetupWiz. One “new” user reported he was mining in 2 minutes after boot.

-Now includes a enhanced software watchdog that monitors “multiple” GPU parameters for crashes and will reset the miner or restart the desktop depending on what is needed.

-Also now has “SmartFan”, a option to run the fans at the “minimum” speed needed to maintain your target GPU temperature. If set correctly, this may extend fan life.

-Updated EWBF to 0.6, added MiniZ 1.0c, gminer 1.05 and bminer 10.2.

Update November 06 2018

ZhashOS Release 3 is now available

-Added extra support features.

-Turned off unneeded ports in firewall when Remote Desktop is not activated.

-Updated MiniZ 1.0e and gminer 1.07.

hello,
I’v got a little troubleshooting to report about your app.

It looks like your app doesn’t read gpu temperature correctly.

[ 0d 0h 0m28s] 383(383) 0>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 0.75 I/s 1.5( 1.5) Sol/s 1>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 38.85 I/s 83.3(83.3) Sol/s 2>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.71 I/s 78.3(78.3) Sol/s 3>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%]*39.31 I/s 76.8(76.8) Sol/s 4>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.62 I/s 78.8(78.8) Sol/s 5>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.51 I/s 78.7(78.7) Sol/s
[ 0d 0h 0m38s] 425(425) 0>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%]*39.99 I/s 82.5(82.5) Sol/s 1>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.48 I/s 82.2(82.2) Sol/s 2>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.92 I/s 80.4(80.4) Sol/s 3>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.25 I/s 78.5(78.5) Sol/s 4>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.73 I/s 79.2(79.2) Sol/s 5>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.51 I/s 77.8(77.8) Sol/s

i run miniz on ubuntu linux 16.04 with cuda 10.0.130-1 , i use miniZ_v1.0g_cuda10_linux-x64.tar.gz . i’ve got 6x 1080ti 11gb

i’d really like to use miniz ( i can mine with 480 sol/s instead of 320 sol/s ) but i don’t want to damage my GPUs ; Overheating comes so fast.

if miniz can’t read correctly temperature it will not stop while templimit is reached.

while miniZ is running nvidia-smi command returns correct temperature value.

do I miss something or can u correct this behaviour ?

Hi rhum200,

we’ve double checked the version and it works fine here.

Could it be the case that you only waited up to 38 sec? It varies but with 6 GPU it might need a few more seconds to show everything (you report 28-38sec).
We have 4 GPU and it varies a lot but it can take up 30-50 sec to show everything. We are looking into this though.

If this does not work, there are a few things to try:

  1. Maybe this will not make much difference… but try and check with only one GPU first. Just to rule out if there’s something related to the number of GPUs.

  2. The program seems to work, except for the temperature readout, so it is likely to be related to nvml library.
    2.1 Can you locate the libnvidia-ml.so? nvidia-smi locates it ok but miniZ doesn’t seem to be able to do it.
    2.2 Can you report back the output of
    ldconfig -p | grep nvidia-ml

  3. Can you report the driver version you’re using?

Just one more thing, as a suggestion for miniZ console output, you may consider the --gpu-line option, to avoid all 6 GPU info showing up in one line.

Thanks.

hello ,
even after 5 min temp still is not shown by miniz while using 6 gpu :
[ 0d 0h 5m09s] 473(473) 0>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.21 I/s 78.6(78.6) Sol/s 1>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 40.15 I/s 80.1(80.0) Sol/s 2>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.93 I/s 78.9(79.2) Sol/s 3>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%]*38.69 I/s 77.9(77.9) Sol/s 4>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.75 I/s 79.3(79.3) Sol/s 5>GTX 1080 Ti[0°C/ 0%] 39.30 I/s 78.7(78.8) Sol/s

i tried with only one and then with 4 gpu and temperature was read immediately.

then i tried with 5 GPU and temperature is still not shown . in order to exclude a GPU dysfunction i tried first with gpu 0123 and then with gpu 4 & 5 . it worked fine.

so i run 2 different instances of miniz with 3 gpu each .

here is libnvidia-ml.so location :

/usr/local/cuda-10.0/targets/x86_64-linux/lib/stubs/libnvidia-ml.so
/usr/local/cuda-9.1/targets/x86_64-linux/lib/stubs/libnvidia-ml.so
/usr/lib/nvidia-410/libnvidia-ml.so

nvidia ldconfig :

rhum@rig1:~$ ldconfig -p | grep nvidia-ml
libnvidia-ml.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/nvidia-410/libnvidia-ml.so.1
libnvidia-ml.so.1 (libc6) => /usr/lib32/nvidia-410/libnvidia-ml.so.1
libnvidia-ml.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/nvidia-410/libnvidia-ml.so
libnvidia-ml.so (libc6) => /usr/lib32/nvidia-410/libnvidia-ml.so

I use nvidia driver 410.72

now with the both instances of miniz my outputs are :

1 )
[ 0d 0h 4m19s] 235(235)
0>GTX 1080 Ti [80°C/59%]*38.72 I/s 78.3(78.3) Sol/s 243.7W clk=1683MHz mclk=5005MHz Sol/W=0.32

2>GTX 1080 Ti [81°C/63%] 39.29 I/s 78.9(78.6) Sol/s 245.8W clk=1708MHz mclk=5005MHz Sol/W=0.32

2 )
[ 0d 0h 4m27s] 238(238)
0>GTX 1080 Ti [79°C/56%] 39.28 I/s 79.0(79.0) Sol/s 245.3W clk=1695MHz mclk=5005MHz Sol/W=0.32

while i launch the second instance i’ve got a error message :

************ miniZ v1.0g ************
Error: Bind has been failed
Bind: : Address already in use

[edit] i understood :slight_smile: bind address is the address for telemetry

miniz work very well anyway . i can mine with miniZ the same speed than if i had 9 GPU with ewbf’s miner .

the issue is the number of GPU. if u want to try on my rig i’ll be able to manage an ssh access next week end.

thank you very much for help.

Thank you rhum200. Glad to know all is running fine.
Are those values with and without OC? If you did some OC can you share your settings so that we can add them?
Cheers

I did no OC in my cards, may be i could get a bigger hashrate.
Regarding to my card’s price i’d prefer to let them with original settings.
I’m too scared to overdamage them.

Hi rhum200,

you might benefit in efficiency, usually people limit the power and introduce some modifications to the core and the memory clock. You need to do it with some care.

From our experience, sometimes we did hang the computer or the miner, but we never damaged the cards. We prevent them from overheating and never raise the voltage. In any case, we understand your fears since those are indeed expensive cards.

Thank you for the values. Just one more question :slight_smile: What is the long time average? It should have stabilized.

please explain me where i can read “long time average”

Thank you for your time. You can read 3h average in the console output. See here how http://miniz.ch/usage/#ConsoleOutput
Cheers
